Algorithmic Editing

I’ve been working on a video installation for the 16th September at the Waterside Arts Center in Sale. The term Algorithmic Editing came to me when I was doing a MAX/MSP JITTER course in London. Since then I have done some research into the term and found 3 artists/groups that are working in this field,  New York dance company Troika Ranch, Canadian emerging artist Sammy Chien and  California based Lev Manovich.

Algorithmic Editing is a way of automatically – through mathematical equations – cutting and reassembling raw footage into a unique new piece of work. I am making it installation interactive where the audience control the edit of the film, creating a unique film on each viewing.
